Dilip Das Gupta was born in shimla in 1931. He graduated in Fine Arts in New Delhi in 1958. He is a National Award winner in 1966. He is also a jury member in many art organizations in India. He participated in many group exhibitions in India and abroad from 1963 at regular intervals. He was awarded by the Italian Govt. in 1963-64 for his excellent works. He held many solo exhibition in India. He was a staff member in the Department of Fine Arts, B.H.U. Varanasi 1972-93. He is called a Master of color combinations.
