Gopal Krishna Bhobe was born in Maharastra and was one of the eminent painters before the Indian Independence. He was the chief layout artist for many years. He was very close to the Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and painted many portraits of famous Indian personalities. He was most a widely respected artist of his time. He died in 1972 in Mumbai.
