Jaya Appaswamy was born and brought up in Delhi. She was associated with early art activities in Delhi. Appaswamy was one of the founder members of Shilpi Chakra and secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi. She died in the late seventies in Delhi. Her paintings are to be found in the collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art and at the Lalit Kala Akademi.
