GREEN BUILDER

When he first conceptualised Paharpur Business Centre, Kamal Meattle’s top priority was quality environment.  “ I want to make sure there was ample fresh air and greenery,” Says Meattle who is also a member of steering committee of Ecomark of the Ministry of Environment.

The Business Centre which is in the hub of the busy commercial centre, Nehru Place today houses offices  of Microsoft, American Express, Motorola, Star TV, British Telecom and more.  Meattle has also taken upon himself to maintain a huge park now known as the Nehru Place Greens where he employs a team of horticulturists and other staff for its upkeep.

His groups other activities includes maintenance of roads , construction of pedestrian - only walk way, regular fumigation drives , regulation of traffic, installation of garbage bins and demolition of unauthorised structures all in association with the local police and M.C.D.

Recently the Business Centre was awarded the ISO - 14001 certificate , earning the distinction of being the first service industry to be awarded the coveted certificate.  “I wanted to give  users of the building clean, fresh air and a mental stimuli to work in ecologically - friendly surroundings.”

Adds Meattle,” studies have proved that greenery around the work place increases efficiency immensely.” He says that this aim is to make Nehru Place a model area for others to emulate.  Surely a task as daunting as sweeping the Aegian stables .
