Bry-Air, the leading player in the HVAC&R industry, today announced winners of the 5th Bry-Air Awards for Excellence in Heating, Ventilating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigerating (HVAC&R) industry. The ceremony was attended by over 800 heads of corporates, student bodies, academia, international organizations, industry veterans and government officials. The Awards are regarded as the most prestigious recognition of excellence and innovation by the industry, and are aimed at driving innovations in the Indian HVAC&R industry, which at present is approximately worth Rs.25,000 crore, and is estimated to double in size every 4 years.
Instituted in 2006, Bry-Air Awards are held annually to reward and recognize outstanding contributions and technological breakthroughs undertaken by corporates and students in rapidly expanding HVAC&R field. The Awards also aim to motivate and nurture the talent of young engineers who will be the future leaders and innovators of the industry. The winners are adjudged by an independent panel of jury members who are distinguished leaders in the corporate world, academia, industry bodies and government. The parameters for judging winners includes the level of innovation undertaken in design, aesthetics etc., energy efficiency and environment friendliness of the project, benchmarking against international systems, suitability and feasibility with respect to application in the Indian sub-continent.
This year, the winners of 5th Bry Air Awards are as follows:
I. STUDENTS CATEGORY
•Winner - Most outstanding and innovative project – Anna University, Chennai

Project Title: An experimental study on energy efficient VRV system using genetic based fuzzy logic controller
About the project: The winning project submitted by Mr. R Parameshwaran was a design which combined variable refrigerant volume (VRV) and variable air volume (VAV) multi-zone conditioning systems to achieve thermal comfort and indoor air quality in buildings without sacrificing the energy efficiency for a year-round building HVAC&R application, through application of intelligent fuzzy controller and genetic optimization.

Project title: Design of system for recovery of refrigeration effect during LNG regassification process
About the product: The suggested recovery system is cascade in nature. Here propane is selected as intermediate fluid because it has low triple point temperature (85 K) and high critical temperature (370 K)

About the product: First and largest LEED platinum rated building in India spread over 5 acers with constructed area of 3,30,000 sqft including basement, the building is rated amongst the most energy efficient buildings in India, primarily as a result of low air conditioning load.
