Dear Reader,

We are back with our second edition of PBC Panorama this year, and it gives me great pleasure in sharing our progress with all of you.

December 2010 has been an eventful month, as we achieved the coveted USGBC LEED EB Platinum certification under Operations and Maintenance category as the first office building in India to do so.

It was indeed a great achievement for us, as PBC is a twenty five year old building.

If we can do it, surely, others too can achieve this and benefit from it.

Since then, we are engaged in constantly striving to reduce our energy and water foot print even further. We constantly try to attain higher standards of performance in all that we do.

Our employees are driven by a common purpose, values, goals and aspirations.

I must say, this feat could not be achieved without the passion and dedication of the PBC team, our customers and stake holders.

A number of initiatives have been taken to make occupants at Paharpur Business Centre, more conscious towards environment.

This is a steady and ongoing process at PBC, and its outcome will be reflected in the years to follow. We have tried to encapsulate all of this, in our newsletter.

As a result, we regularly update our ‘Environmental Responsibility Policy’, as the policy plays a significant role in motivating the PBC Team to adopt ‘Green’ measures for saving energy and resources, for the benefit of our future generation.

I believe, an organization, can achieve great laurels, if environmental awareness is etched in each employee. Therefore, numerous activities and programmes such as Earth Day, Environment Day among others, are organized and celebrated at Paharpur Business Centre.

All our readers should be acquainted with the Carbon Calculator. There are number of sites, such as www.cleanindia.org/carbon /calculator, on the internet, wherein, one can calculate the amount of carbon, one is emitting. This information and comparison will help each of us in understanding it.

We should not forget that small measures can lead to big strides. We should make it a habit to turn computer off when leaving for the day. Setting a computer on auto sleep mode during short breaks can actually cut energy use by 70 percent. Using laptops instead of desk tops saves energy. Setting indoor temperature in air-conditioned indoors to 25 degrees centigrade does the same.

Each one of us has to contribute to save the environment and only then we will be able to make a difference in the world for our future generations.
